The media fraternity was on Wednesday thrown into mourning following the demise of one of its editors, Cyrus Mwelwa.
Mwelwa's death was brought to public attention by MCSK CEO Ezekiel Mutua in a condolence message he conveyed via social media platform X.
"I have learned with profound shock of the death of a dear friend and long-time colleague Cyrus Mwelwa, formerly of the Nation Media Group and later the Standard Group," Mutua said.
"May God give peace and comfort to the family and may his soul find eternal repose."
Mwelwa worked at Nation Media Group as a sub-editor between 1995 to 2003 March before moving to the Standard Media Group.
His stint at the Mombasa Road-based media firm lasted for a year and eight months from October 2003 to May 2005.
After leaving the newsroom, Mwelwa ventured into Public Relations, with his first posting being at the East African Portland Cement as Head of PR.
The Moi University Communication and Journalism alumnus also worked at the Africa Leadership Institute, AIG, Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) and Organic Health Media where he was the CEO from 2019.
Mwelwa's death comes just days after the death of another veteran media personality Sean Cardovillis.
The renowned Capital FM sports commentator was found dead on the staircase of his house at an apartment in Westlands on Saturday, 9, 2023.
Cardovillis was mourned by many including President William Ruto who termed his death a big loss to the country.
The Family said his remains will be cremated on Thursday, September 14 and a memorial service held in his honour on September 22 at Consolata church from 10am.
