• Nairobi county speaker Benson Mutura had on Wednesday resisted his arrest from his office at the county offices roughing up the officers.

• He is accused of receiving imprests for travels he never made abroad.

Nairobi county speaker Benson Mutura spent his night in police custody at Muthaiga police station after his arrest in a case of stealing by a servant. 

This is after he honoured summonses to record statements at DCI headquarters. Mutura had on Wednesday resisted his arrest from his office at the county offices roughing up the officers.

One of the officers claims he lost his official identification document in the drama. Mutura is likely to face extra charges over the incident.

He is accused of receiving imprests for travels he never made abroad. 

MEANWHILE...

Nandi senator Simon Cherargei is expected in court this morning to face charges of failing to appear in an ongoing hate speech case he is facing. 

Cherargei spent his night at the Capitol Hill police cells after he was arrested in Eldoret and brought to Nairobi. This was after a court issued a warrant to arrest him.

Cherargei had two weeks ago had a verbal argument with a magistrate handling his case in court accusing her of being biased. 

IN OTHER NEWS: 

A suspected thug was last evening shot dead in the Pumwani area, Nairobi during a robbery incident. 

Police said the suspect was in the company of three others and had been attacking and robbing local pedestrians when an alarm was raised.

This alerted police on patrol who responded and shot dead one while the rest ran away. Police say they have heightened operations in the city to address cases of robberies. 

Police in Kikuyu are investigating a case where a body of a man who had been missing since April 12 was found in a water tank. The water was being consumed by the homes there. 

Peter Kiarie aged 48 was missing for the days before his son discovered it therein.

This is after he realized the water he had drawn and wanted to drink from the tank had a foul smell. It was then he checked and found the body floating therein.

Police were called and picked up the body to the mortuary as investigators work on the scene amid claims he may have either been killed or died by suicide.
