Rapper and activist Juliani has expressed his intention to join hundreds of Gen Z youth on Thursday afternoon in Nairobi for protests scheduled to continue for the second day this week, pushing Parliament to reject the 2024 Finance Bill.

The first protests took place on Tuesday when the bill's report was presented in Parliament for the first time by the chairman of the Finance Planning Committee, Molo MP Kimani Kuria.

On Thursday, the report is scheduled to be thoroughly discussed and voted on, with many young people organizing what could be the largest protests yet, carried out without any political leader.

Juliani confirmed on his X page that he would be present and urged the youth, in addition to arming themselves with water, their phones, and handkerchiefs to wipe away tears and sweat, to also show up in large numbers with music equipment such as Bluetooth speakers.

The artist, known for his activist songs, said that their protests should take on the image of a celebration and not involve the destruction of property, adding that music would significantly help give the protesters the strength to push on, as they plan to camp outside the National Assembly buildings when the bill is being voted on.

“Caution: How about a full celebration tomorrow. People should bring Bluetooth speakers. We’ll accept any playlist that can motivate and energize people. Kaende kaende!” Juliani said.

The campaign to rally the youth online to pressure for the rejection of the 2024 Finance Bill has gained momentum, especially on X, where they are using the hashtags #RejectFinanceBill2024 and #OccupyParliament.
