Being a new mum is interesting but it can also be confusing for first-time mums.
The desire to want to give your child the best might make you buy stuff that you don't necessarily need.
Some of these things include
Strollers
It is every new parent's dream to buy his/ her child a stroller.
Some parents even spend thousands to buy the same only to use the stroller for a few days or never at all.
Assuming you live in places where the roads are not well maintained it can be hard to run a stroller.
Imagine having a stroller in Kibera, where would one pass it if you have to jump through mountains of trash, sewage, and sometimes human stool?
Only get a stroller if you own a car, if you live in places with well-maintained roads or if you are a frequent traveler.
Pacifiers
Westernized countries have made Africans emulate so many of the things they do even when it's unnecessary.
A pacifier is good in some instances but it is not a MUST.
Pacifiers help keep a child busy by offering comfort when your baby is crying and/or agitated.
But they can also become 'addictive' for some kids hence making it hard to ditch them.
Imported/designer shoes
You have the money and you can dress your child the way you want. But why dress a days or weeks old baby in designer shoes
No one will notice as they barely leave the house. Kids are very easy and they do not need much.
Once they can walk, you can dress them in the most expensive clothes or shoes you want.
At least then people will notice, if that was your intention, to begin with.
It is also not advisable to buy many pairs of shoes for kids as it's easy to forget some and they end up getting small.
A wipes warmer
Wipes can sometimes be cold but that does not mean that you have to buy a warmer.
It only takes a few seconds to wipe a baby's bum and by then she won't even notice the cold.
Baby laundry detergent
Baby clothes do not need anything much while washing as most kids have sensitive skin. So stop pouring money on expensive detergents.
Strong detergents can trigger allergies or provoke sneezing.
Bottle sterilizers
Sterilizing baby bottles can be achieved for free with boiling water.
Baby powder
For years new parents were told to always have baby powder to prevent diaper rash. Times have changed and
After all, is said and done, parenting has no manual and what works for you might not work for the other person.
