A somber mood engulfed a village in Embu East after an absurd incident that shocked residents.
This comes after a 100-year-old grandmother was raped in Karundori village in Runyenjes, Embu East sub-county with the alleged perpetrator being stoned to death by the enraged residents of the area.
Police were called to the scene and carried out investigations after the 22-year-old man was attacked and killed by residents on suspicion of molesting the elderly woman.
The young man is said to have died after succumbing to injuries inflicted on him by angry residents from Karundori in Kyeni north, Embu East sub-county.
Police Commander Emmanuel Okanda on Tuesday confirmed the incident, saying Pius Mwireri bled to death after sustaining serious injuries inflicted on him by the angry mob.
The deceased who was known is alleged to have sparked anger from his villagers by allegedly sexually assaulting the 100-year-old grandmother from his home village.
Emmanuel Okanda the police commander confirmed that the body of the deceased was taken to Kyeni level 4 hospital and mortuary situated in Embu county.
The granny was also rushed to the same hospital facility to receive medical examination and treatment for any physical wounds.
She was given her medication to take from home as she went to take some rest.
