Operations in a mushroom farm in Mai Mahiu were paralyzed for hours after a boiler blew up killing one of the workers on the spot.

Scores of other workers were injured, three of them seriously during the Monday morning incident on the farm located a few kilometres from Mai Mahiu town.

Trouble started after the boiler which is used to supply steam to the farm developed mechanical problems before blowing up on Monday morning.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident adding that the victim died on the spot while the other three workers were in critical but stable condition recovering in hospital.

“We had an incident where a boiler in a farm producing mushrooms blew up killing one person and seriously injuring three others,” he said on Monday.

A worker on the farm narrated how they had a loud bang as the boiler blew up splashing hot water on them and blowing up some walls.

“The morning accident caused panic forcing the workers to flee leading to some injuries from the melee and the hot steam,” said the worker who declined to be named.

Meanwhile, residents of Moi Ndabi in Naivasha are trying to come to terms after a 25-year-old man hanged himself inside his parents’ compound.

The body of Paul Njoroge who was working under the Kazi Mtaani cahoots was found by a relative before police from Kongoni police station moved in to collect it.

The OCPD confirmed the incident adding that the motive behind the suicide had not been established through the body had been collected and taken to Naivasha hospital mortuary.

“The victim had been spotted with his colleagues the previous evening in one of the hotels where he was okay and we are not sure what caused him to take his life,” he said.
