According to South African police officials, at least 15 individuals were shot and killed in a pub in the South African township of Soweto.
Early on Sunday morning, gunmen allegedly broke into the Orlando East bar and began firing indiscriminately at a crowd of young people.
After that, they escaped the area in a white minibus. According to authorities, no reason for the incident has been found.
According to Nomsa Maseko of the BBC, additional patients are being treated in the hospital in critical condition.
The victims' ages range from 19 to 35, according to estimates.
Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, the director of police in Gauteng province, told the BBC that it appeared the shooting was "a cold-blooded attack on innocent pub patrons."
In another pub, four more individuals perished.
But this is an exceptionally high death toll and comes soon after the death of 21 teenagers thought to have been either gassed or poisoned at another bar in the city of East London.
