Slain Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo was laid to rest in a low-key ceremony at his Keboba home in Nyaribari Chache in Kisii on Friday.

Journalists were largely unwelcome during the burial ceremony.

"And even though paid mercenaries of the written word have sought to tarnish your name in death, the truth shall set us free," part of the scripted eulogy read, a sarcastic remark to the blazing media attention the incident has sparked.

"Vengeance belongs to the Lord and it will be delivered, either in this life or next."

Maigo grew up in the city and the family mourned him as one who did not fail them before death cut his life.

He was caring and as he championed compassionate causes away from office.

Maigo's voice, his father Zebedeo said he would eternally torment the killers.

Young Maigo was born in 1986 to a fairly aristocratic family.

He did his accounting degree at Strathmore and Commerce at the University of Nairobi.

The hunt for jobs took him to insurance before he landed a job at The Nairobi Hospital in 2023.

Dinah Onchari, Maigo's mother, reminisced about her son in sweet words.

"You were my light, who would take care of me in old age. They have taken away your young life," she said.

The father said he was sorely wounded by his son's death.

" I am traumatized. No man, past or present, or yet to come should have to go through that kind of suffering," he said.

He said as a family, they would seek no vengeance.

"This crime was the work of satan, and satan shall never prevail, for God always triumphs," he told mourners.

Caroline Toni, his sister, said: "Even in your transition, you will continue inspiring me because of your industrious and adventurous nature, great intellect, calm and gentle spirit."

Among those who turned up were Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tongi.
