• “I had interacted with him during our board’s Finance and Investment Committee meeting."
On Thursday, September 14, 2023, the Nairobi Hospital Finance and Investments Committee met as usual. James Nyamongo's attendance at these sessions in his capacity as CEO of Nairobi Hospital was usual.
He had no idea that day or chat would be his final one with the late Nairobi Hospital acting finance director Eric Maigo.
Nyamongo claimed in a Citizen TV interview on Tuesday that the late Maigo gave a powerful presentation.
“I had interacted with him during our board’s Finance and Investment Committee meeting and we had made a very good presentation. I saw one of the ways he has delivered from a professional view," he narrated.
As they parted ways after the meeting, the CEO said they agreed to meet the following day but it never came to pass.
"It was really disheartening to find out the person I was with 12 hours ago was no more,” Nyamongo said.
The Nairobi Hospital Finance and Investments Committee met as normal on Thursday, September 14, 2023. James Nyamongo regularly attended these meetings in his capacity as Nairobi Hospital's CEO.
He had no idea that the conversation with the late Nairobi Hospital acting finance director would be his last. In a Citizen TV interview on Tuesday, Nyamongo asserted that the late Maigo delivered an impactful speech.
She is being held in the Muthaiga Police Station while waiting to be transferred to the Kilimani Police Station, which is in charge of the case.
CEO Nyamongo says it has been challenging since the news first broke at the hospital because employees are still processing the horrifying manner in which Maigo was killed.
The CEO made a point of mentioning Maigo as one of his top employees and his go-to resource for financial issues.
"All of us were shocked by the murder of Maigo. We as the Nairobi Hospital family are looking forward to knowing the cause of this death," Nyamongo added.
The CEO noted that the staff at the hospital have been going through counseling since the murder occurred. Last Friday, the Nairobi Hospital organised a requiem mass for the slain finance director.
It was held at the hospital Amphitheatre Convention Centre. Maigo will be buried at his Kisii rural home on September 29, 2023.
