It was a sigh of relief to the family of baby Junior Sagini, whose eyes were gouged out as the court found three accomplices guilty and issued sentences.
Alex Ochogo, the prime convict was sentenced to serve 40 years behind bars.
Other accomplices, Baby Sagini's aunt Pacifica Nyakerario and grandmother Rael Nyakerario, will serve 10 and five years in prison respectively.
However, to Maureen Nyaboke, baby Sagini's mother, her wish was to see the convicts spend their entire lives in prison.
In an interview with Nation, Nyaboke said that she did not attend the court ruling because she was busy with work to fend for the family.
"My son's eyes were damaged. No miracle will happen for him to ever see again; he is now blind. He was innocent," she said.
"The same way my son will never see again, the harsh punishment they gave to him, they should never be made to see the outside of the prison gate for the rest of their lives. They should just die there."
Junior Sagini, 4, is currently in the custody of the government.
In the July 24, sentencing Senior Principal Magistrate Christine Ogweno found Ochogo guilty of direct involvement in the gruesome assault that left the minor, then 3, groping in the dark for the rest of his life.
Ochogo used a knife to pluck Sagini's eyes.
Pacifica and Rael were found guilty by an accomplice of attempting to shield the suspect.
The three were all related to Sagini as cousin, aunt and grandmother.
Ogweno, in the sentencing, said the court heavily relied on the evidence given by a key witness who was also a confidante of Ochogo.
The witness was given government protection under the witness protection act.
