• Kenyan celebrities are reacting to the news coming from Bomas.

A historic number of women have been announced as winners in the just concluded August 9th General election.

At least seven of Kenya’s 47 incoming governors are women, compared with only three in the last government, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)

The seven female governor-elects are Susan Kihika (Nakuru County), Gladys Wanga (Homabay County), Cecily Mbarire (Embu County), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos County), and Fatuma Achani (Kwale County), Kawira Mwangaza (Meru County) and Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga County).

While tallying is ongoing, Kenyans are taking to their social media to congratulate all the winners regardless of party affiliation.

IEBC has also declared six women who have won MP seats and one senator.

"Congratulations to all the newly-elected Women Governors across the country. It's delightful to see Kenyan's growing confidence in women leaders. I wish you all the very best" read a message from Esther Passaris.

Singer Avril, who is a Nakuru native took note of the women elected to lead her home county Nakuru. Avril captioned a gallery of photos "My county breaking history."

Radio Jambo's Massawe Japanni also congratulated the women elects in Nakuru county captioning the same picture "Yaaaaasss!"

Makena Njeri also took to her Instagram to send her best wishes to the county leadership. "So proud of my county people Nakuru county !!!1," Makena excitedly tagged Susan Kihika and Tabitha Karanja.

Blogger and content creator Murugi Munyi appreciated the emancipation of women writing,

"Absolutely love to see it for Nakuru."

Bongo singer Ali Kiba's Kenyan wife Amina Khaleef herself wrote "It's a new dawn."
