9 facts about Kawira Mwangaza, the woman who trounced both Kiraitu and Mithika

Kawira Mwangaza, the new governor-elect of Meru County, defeated political heavyweights and defeated the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) tsunami that was sweeping Mount Kenya.

She defeated political heavyweights like the incumbent Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi, and incumbent Meru senator, Mithika Linturi. What was more impressive is that she run as an independent.

There have been rumours that Kawira collaborated with former governor Peter Munya, a foe of incumbent governor Kiraitu Murungi, throughout the campaign period.

Let's not forget that Murungi and Munya have been at odds ever since Murungi easily defeated Munya in the 2017 elections.

But what do we know about Mwangaza herself? Let's begin;

1. Sh graduated from Moyale Girls High School in 1992.

2. From 2004 to 2008, Kawira served as the CEO of Mwangaza Distributors, a business that specializes in energy solutions.

3. It was at this role that she got the Swahili moniker "Mwangaza," which means illumination, as a result.

4. In 2011 Mwangaza graduated from Kampala University with a Bachelor of Education in Guidance and Counseling after starting her course in 2008.

5. She also went on to get a human resource management certificate from Makerere University.

6. In 2012, she got another certificate from Meru University.

7. The governor-elect is a co-owner of the Meru-language television station Baite Television along with her musician husband Mugera Baichu.

8. Mwangaza is also the owner of the internet television station Mwangaza TV.

9. In 2017, she became a Women's Rep for Meru county when she defeated Florence Kajuju, who had been in office and was supported by the Jubilee Party.
