Muthoni The Drummer Queen has a new EP dubbed Monsoon, a dedication to East African music in the global conversation.

It is a 3 track EP, with the singer sampling different music sounds that she calls ustaarabu.

"Its inspiration is pop. I really love pop. Pop was he first music I ever really interacted with. I really like this idea of coastal Kiswahili very musical as a language. I wanted to make something that plays with Kiswahili. but Twist it, throw some kapuyka in there. lace that with Afrobeats," she shared with her fans.

That 'Mikono Kwenye Hewa' singer has gone full circle in her career in entertainment, but this was not a dream her family had for her and faced fierce opposition to her plans to ditch her career in music.

Speaking to Barack Bukusi on the Financially Incorrect podcast, MDQ said that she was in constant disagreement with her mother for ditching a career as a diplomat in preference for music.

"For years my mum actually told her friends that I was unemployed. We are waiting on the Lord to give her a job, we are trusting God," she said as she laughed about her memory.

"I can understand. Low key you are like you spent guap putting somebody through USIU for International Relations. She is like ah my daughter the diplomat. Then I'm just like yeah I just wanna sing a song, play drums, some raps.

She is like you must be literally insane and ungrateful and throwing your life away and maybe this is a phase."

She was sent to an uncle to mentor her.

"But to be honest I knew from when I was 5 or 6. Because I loved music, entertainment, I loved putting on a show. I voiced that very early in our home.

My dad was kinda low key alright, but my mum was like definitely not. 'What are you talking about? Like can you think about a real career?' And there was a lot of pressure," she shared.

At 21 she took the steps to commit herself to be a musician as one can clearly see those fruits.
