Renowned media personality, author, and human rights activist Janet Mbugua has revealed the highlight of her career as a journalist.

On her Instagram page, Janet shared a video of herself watching a short clip on her phone. While engaging with someone in the background she went on to detail that she was re-watching a clip from her prime journalistic days that gives her immense joy.

"I'm watching my... this was the highlight, I think as far as highlights of my career as a journalist go this could be it. I covered Mandela's burial back when I was at Citizen TV," started off the mother of 2 as she shared a footage of herself from back in the day, reporting the demise of the former South African president as well as a clip showing his casket.

Janet went on to reminisce about the whole experience detailing that even though now she is super obsessed with that day and having such a high coverage experience on her portfolio is a plus for her she is in no way thrilled about how some events in regard to that day unfolded.

"The way that day started was so bad, like my phone has never gone off on the one night it went off, (I don't know what happened) I was woken up by my doorbell. Upon opening the door, I find one of our company's drivers and immediately I put two and two together switched on the TV and there it was Breaking News Nelson Mandela has died," narrated the philanthropic author recalling the details of December 2013.

The driver goes on to tell me how desperately they had been looking for her and she admits she did get an earful from her bosses soon as she charged and switched on her mobile device. Luckily, she navigated that hiccup and was on the first flight to Johannesburg immediately they had everything sorted out.

She went on to highlight how she had no time to process anything, soon as she landed, and got her accreditation she was out on her first assignment at FNB Stadium.

"We get to the stadium and there was a lot of the former USA presidents, and all this huge people from Bill Clinton to Barrack Obama and I was just seating 2 benches from them. When we went upstairs to do a piece to camera I turned back and there was Christiana Anderson Cooper  and that is when I knew I had to give this my all," added the mother of 2.

She did the memorial then followed the proceeding to Kunu where the late Mandela was being laid to rest. According to Janet, the burial was one of the most spectacular things she has ever encountered because of how well choreographed and organized everything was.

Janet recalled how she viewed Mandela's body while he was lying in state and later on went to interview different people who all had the same surreal reaction to the passing of the iconic freedom fighter.

"I don't think anyone will ever be laid to rest in such a manner ever again, it was beautiful and surreal. This was it! This was probably the highlight of my career and honestly I did not think this was a big deal at that moment because I was chasing stories.

And I got to interview someone who was in prison with Mandela back in the day,"  added Janet Mbugua as she went on to marvel over how that feature landed her interviews with 2 of some of the biggest media houses in the world.

Captioning the video she wrote;

"Not me stumbling across one of my features from my News Reporter/ Anchor days and unpacking the story, the feels, the appreciation for being a part of this historical moment
