Kenyans on Wednesday turned up for the Azimio-led national prayer rally at Jevanjee Gardens in Nairobi.

The rally is being led by Azimio leader Raila Odinga and other Azimio principals.

As Raila and other leaders made their way into the Jevanjee Gardens, Kenyans gave them a warm welcome.

They were carrying empty plates, spoons and 'sufurias' to decry the high cost of living that has sparked uproar across the country.

During the prayer rally, they held their plates up in the air in protest.

This is the first time the former Prime Minister is leading other opposition luminaries and a legion of supporters for a prayer rally in the city CBD.

He was accompanied by Narc leader Martha Karua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Roots party leader George Wajackoya among other leaders.

Raila has been leading a series of campaigns decrying the high cost of living making Kenyan lives unbearable.

He joins other organisations that have led similar demonstrations in protest of the high cost of living.

On Monday, a section of Nairobi residents and Justice for Africa held demonstrations over the high cost of living.

The peaceful match started at Mathare, Austin’ Ground next to Kiboro Primary school along Juja Road to CBD to deposit our Petition to the Office of the Deputy President and the Ministry of Education on the high cost of living.

With the high cost of living, they said the price of basic commodities including cooking oil, maize flour, wheat flour, and sugar has doubled and as a result, children are not going to school.
