President-elect Dr. William Ruto has led Kenyans in mourning Queen Elizabeth II after it was announced on Thursday that she had 'peacefully' passed away in her sleep.
Buckingham Palace confirmed her death at 1:30 pm, leaving millions around the world reeling over the tragic loss.
The former deputy president tweeted;
"I have received news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II and I send condolences to the people of the United Kingdom. The queen’s leadership of the Commonwealth for the past seven decades is admirable.
"She steered the institution’s evolution into a forum for effective multilateral engagement whose potential to drive tremendous socioeconomic progress remains incontestable and redounds to the Queen’s historic legacy.
"We will miss the cordial ties she enjoyed with Kenya and may her memories continue to inspire us. We join the Commonwealth in mourning and offer our condolences to the Royal Family and the United Kingdom."
Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta also mourned Queen.
In his message of condolence and comfort to His Majesty King Charles III, the Royal Family, Prime Minister Liz Truss, and the British people, Kenyatta Eulogized the 96-year-old monarch as a towering global icon of selfless service to humanity.
"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a towering icon of selfless service to humanity and a key figurehead of not only the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations where Kenya is a distinguished member but the entire world," President Kenyatta mourned.
Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka wrote;
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a remarkable statesperson who put country before self. Indeed, I'm reminded of her words: "I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service..."
Hon. Musalia Mudavadi added;
"We join the people of the United Kingdom in mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. Kenya always had a place in her history; she ascended to the throne following the passing away of her father, King George VI, while she was in Kenya."
Amina J Mohammed said;
"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered in history for her unwavering dedication and grace. She epitomized service to humankind. My prayers are with her family and the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Commonwealth of Nations."
Hon. Esther M. Passaris stated;
Rest in Peace, Queen Elizabeth II. You have left an indelible mark in our hearts. My condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Britain.
With a 70-year reign, the Queen was the British monarch with the longest reign. Princess Elizabeth, who was born in 1926, succeeded her father, King George VI, as monarch in 1952.
