Singer Marya says everything changed after she was left a single mother and needed to survive.

She had no job or money to sustain her life.

Speaking to Mungai Eve, the Chokoza hitmaker revealed that she took a break from music due to financial issues, though music is still part of her and she loves music.

Sometimes last year, allegations that Marya was running a brothel on Thika Road went viral.

This was after an expose by blogger Edgar Obare who alleged that she had been soliciting customers for the trade, online.

"I have never gotten myself together. This is where I am right now. We broke up with my baby daddy when my baby was three years old," she narrated.

Asked if she has overcome depression and if she was working in a brothel, Marya denied saying she only associated herself with a group of 'bad women'.

"I needed to fight for my survival. I am still struggling to come back," she said.

"I had to remove myself from that depression mode. My brand name was not the same. When you are trying to make ends meet and you don't have a job, you meet bad and good people."

Marya regrets it but says it was the only option left to her.

"You try going to people in the industry who have connections and ask for help… but it all went to deaf ears so I found myself associating with a bad group of women and that is how my brand drowned."

She said women are their own worst enemies.

"I made the worst choices associating with the people I thought had the best interest for me."

Marya said when Edgar reached out to her, he did not listen to her side of the story but ended up exposing her.

"I have never overcome since that story went viral. You meet people and they insult you badly. They call me names and they don't believe me when I tell them the story was twisted.

When I tried to explain myself, Edgar did not want to listen to my side of the story," she said.
