Legendary female artist Wahu has thanked her fans for always being there for her.

The mother of two says at some point she battled depression but Kenyans still supported her not knowing the battles she was going through.

Through her socials she penned;

"It's my birthday month! So please allow me to be a little mushy. You don't know what it does to me when I meet people who tell me they grew up listening to me, and I've touched them in one way or another.

Because in all honesty, the plan was never to become famous.( Lord knows I was way to shy and withdrawn as a child to chase the stage)."

Adding;

"Let's not forget the battles with depression as a young woman, (a story for another day).

What I was chasing was a simple dream, and that dream was to be happy, & happy doing the thing that I love to do which was and still is, express myself in song.

So thank you guys for hanging around all these years. Thank you for the encouragement and the love . And may this new month bring blessings your way."

Wahu had in a past interview shared that she wrote her first song as a dedication to her brother David.

The fear of losing her brother, David, prompted her to write her first song at age 16.

David had at the time been diagnosed with Tuberculosis and doctors had said he had a 50/50 surviving chance.

Afraid that her brother might die without knowing how she felt Wahu penned the song for him.

Speaking during an interview with Churchill Wahu emotionally shared;

"I wrote my first song at age 16, it was for my brother who was unwell. We were told he had a 50/50 chance of surviving. I was like if I lost my brother he would never know how much I love him, so I wrote the song.

One day while coming from shagz David was driving so I decided to sing him the song and he loved it. It was awkward because we did not know how to say I love you. He appreciated and I loved that he loved the song."

The brother survived and is one of Wahu's biggest fans.
