Gukena FM comedian Auntie Jemimah wanted a home birth as she was afraid she would end up going through a ceasarian section.

Speaking to Mungai Eve, Jemimah narrated how she lost her daughter despite having a smooth 34 weeks' pregnancy journey (eight months).

"My pregnancy was smooth. Water broke at 34 weeks. I was just relaxing after leaving work," she said, adding that she hoped to start her maternity leave on her very last day.

According to her doctors, Jemimah had a prelabour rupture of membranes.

"I called my midwife. I wanted to do a home birth. I went to the toilet and realised it was indeed true. So my doctor advised me to go to the hospital. I went into labour immediately."

She added that after a few checkups of the heartbeat, she noticed the doctors were struggling but she didn't want to express the fear.

"My biggest fear was going through CS, and that's why I wanted a home birth. I believed in my body so much," she said.

"I went to the emergency ultrasound and they then broke the news that there was no foetal activity. I was induced and my baby arrived sleeping."

Jemimah emotionally remembered how beautiful her late daughter was.

"It broke me. She was 2.2kg and losing her crushed me."

Asked what killed her baby, she said the doctors said she died a day or two before.

"They let me stay with her before taking her away from me," she said.

"There is no reason since I was okay. The doctor said it was one of those unfortunate cases that can't be explained."

She said during the whole process while in hospital, she was afraid she would die and so she hardly closed her eyes.

Auntie Jemimah is planning a standup comedy show featuring Kikuyu female comedians titled 'Nyarari' on December 24 at the Anzana Gardens.

"I am doing this show for my daughter. She made me realise tomorrow is never planned for anyone."
