Kenyans have been urged to prepare for an expected increase in rainfall in many parts of the country in the coming days.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Kenya Meteorological Department warned that an increase in rainfall is expected from Thursday to the weekend.
As a result, the department has advised Kenyans to be more cautious as heavy rainfall is witnessed in various areas.
"Expect an increase in rainfall in many parts of the country from Thursday to the weekend. Stay safe and dry, everyone!" warned the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The department listed various regions of Kenya expected to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days.
These areas include the Eastern/Western Highlands of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Southeastern Highlands, and Northwestern and Northeastern regions.
On Wednesday, Pope Francis sent a message of comfort to Kenyans as the country faces severe floods.
In his message on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the Pope called for prayers for Kenya as the citizens face the harshness of the floods.
He said that he personally prays for Kenyans who are facing the effects of floods which have so far claimed the lives of about 200 people.
"I am spiritually close to the people of Kenya at this time when severe floods have cost many lives and caused extensive damage. Let us together pray for all those affected by this disaster," the Pope said in his statement on the X website.
This comes in the wake of ongoing floods in the country that have caused loss of life and property.
On Wednesday morning, residents of Kitengela were hit by floods after heavy rain fell in the city and its environs.
Many of them took to social media to seek assistance, with humanitarian organizations such as the Kenya Red Cross taking action to relocate families.
Several residents were unable to leave their homes early Wednesday morning due to the flooding.
The latest reports from the Kenya Red Cross indicate that at least 11 people, six of them in critical condition, had been relocated.
On Tuesday, Deputy President William Ruto announced that the floods had claimed the lives of over 170 people.
