A 35-year-old taxi driver in Homa Bay town is nursing injuries after suspected criminals broke into his house on Wednesday morning.

The man, Samuel Ayoo said his wife was also raped by seven men in the ordeal that occurred around 2:30 am.

He said the suspects who had covered their faces told him they came to harm him and the family over reasons they didn't reveal.

Ayoo said attempts to plead with them to take his car and leave his family were unsuccessful.

“They said they came to kill me and never wanted anything else. They declined to take a car and instead assaulted me,” Ayoo said.

He said the suspects turned to his wife and subsequently raped her in the presence of their two children.

“They demanded money from my wife and forcefully raped her when she said she had no money,” Ayoo said.

The woman sustained serious injuries leaving her with difficulties in movement.

Ayoo said one of the thugs hit the back of his head, ribs and abdomen with a blunt object and left him to die.

He said he remained unconscious for about 25 minutes and the suspects stole Sh3,900 and two mobile phones.

“I lost consciousness but I was able to get up after a short while. One of them hit the left side of my head when he realised I had regained consciousness,” he said.

Hitherto, Ayoo has not established how the suspects got into the house yet he recalls locking his steel door when he was going to sleep.

Ayoo and his wife are currently admitted at Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

He is now calling on security officers in Homa Bay town to speed up investigations and apprehend the suspects.

Arujo location chief Bob Lang'o said the matter has been reported to the Homa Bay police station and investigations are underway.

He assured the family that his office will collaborate with investigators to trace the suspects.
