President William Ruto has directed the National Treasury to review the gazette notice issued by the SRC that increases the salaries of state officers.

In a statement, Ruto stressed that all arms of government must live within their means, especially given the current financial constraints and the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024.

The salary increments, which took effect on July 1, would see increased salaries and benefits for state officers in the Executive of the National Government, the Senate, the National Assembly, county governments, and independent commissions.

While the salaries of the President and his deputy would remain the same, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and other Cabinet Secretaries would see their pay increase from Sh957,000 to Sh990,000.

Principal Secretaries, the Inspector General, and the Director General of NIS would now earn Sh819,844, up from Sh792,519 per month.

The Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police and Administration Police, as well as the Director of Criminal Investigations, would see their salaries rise from Sh652,742 to Sh684,233.

The Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate would each receive Sh1,208,362 monthly, up from Sh1,185,327.

Deputy Speakers would take home Sh966,690 monthly, while the Majority and Minority leaders would earn Sh800,019.

Members of the National Assembly and the Senate would have their gross salaries increased from Sh725,502 to Sh739,600.
