After a decade in leadership, Embakasi West MP George Theuri has failed in his bid to seek a third term.
On Wednesday, the legislator thanked his supporters after 10 years of service.
"In every competition, there must be a winner and a loser, that's why I George Theuri concede defeat and peaceful hand over the button to my brother so as for the next 5 years to serve Embakasi west. Congratulations Hon Mark Mureithi Mwenje," Theuri said.
He also took the opportunity to congratulate his main rival Jubilee MP Mark Mureithi Mwenje.
"I want to take this early opportunity to sincerely thank the entire Embakasi west Constituency for giving me an opportunity to serve you for the past 10yrs," Theuri said.
The incumbent asked his supporters to support the incoming MP as he takes over the office and to accord him the necessary respect the office deserves.
Born and raised in Umoja’s Eastland's estate, Theuri was elected as Umoja One councillor in 2007.
In 2013, he become the first Embakasi West MP under The National Alliance party.
Theuri beat ODM’s Brian Weke after garnering 40,606 votes against his 35,333.
In 2017, he was re-elected under the Jubilee Party, beating Tom Agimba of ODM with 47,848 votes, against Agimba's 30,983 votes.
Theuri is one of Deputy President William Ruto's close ally.
