After serving the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) for 8 years, Secretary-general Wilson Sossion called it quits.

In a press conference in Nairobi, Sossion announced his resignation  just a day before the Union’s elections.

The long-serving Secretary-general has always proved that he is 'made of steel' in the manner which he fights for the rights of Kenyan teachers.

However, leaving his position at KNUT turned out to be a very emotional moment for Sossion.

In the presence of his wife and children, Sossion burst into tears as he recalled his humble beginning at Tenwek High School.

"There are those men and women in Bomet who picked me from a classroom. I thank my students at Tenwek high school who made me who i am," Sossion said amid tears.

Sossion said that his resignation was in the Interest of the KNUT continuity and its members.

In the past 2 years, he has been facing hostile rebellion from some members of the Union who once locked him out of his office.
