Attorney General (AG) Justin Muturi's son, Leslie Muturi, is missing and is suspected to have been either kidnapped or arrested by unidentified individuals in Nairobi’s Lavington area.
AG Muturi confirmed that the family has yet to locate Leslie.
"He has not yet been found," AG Muturi stated in a message on Sunday around 11:30 am. The incident has been reported to the police.
Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje revealed the incident on the night of Saturday, June 22, while standing next to the four-wheel drive vehicle that Leslie was using at the time of his alleged abduction.
The police have stated they are unaware of who took Leslie, who is about 40 years old.
Leslie, a businessman, had reportedly been at a popular club along Dennis Pritt Road before driving out. His car was blocked a few meters ahead, and he was forced out and put into a different vehicle which then sped off.
The motive behind the incident remains unknown.
In a video that circulated online on Saturday evening, Mwenje alleged that Leslie, whom he described as his friend, was taken out of his car by police officers by the roadside.
Mwenje claimed that they were driving in separate cars alongside other friends in Nairobi’s Kilimani area when alleged police officers stopped Leslie’s car and took him away in a Land Cruiser.
“We were in Kilimani when my friend Leslie Muturi, son of AG Justin Muturi, was arrested by the police here on the road. I was following him; this is his car,” the MP said in the video.
The blue SUV was seen on the roadside with its doors and boot open.
“To the police who have taken him, we will find you. Release him right now; we will not sleep until we find him. We have informed everyone in Nairobi,” he stated in the video.
“The police claim they do not know where he is, yet those who took him are cops. We saw you in a white hardtop Land Cruiser, dressed in black combat gear. We saw you and have your plates.”
The police have said they are investigating the claims.
