Mwangi wa Iria's wife and brother arrested

Jane Waigwe Kimani, the wife to former Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and her brother Solomon Mutura Kimani have been arrested.

Confirming the arrest, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said both are suspects in the Sh140 million Murang'a county graft probe.

Ngumbi stated that the suspects are currently being escorted to Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for arraignment.

The two are directors of one of the companies allegedly used as a conduit for the scheme.

EACC said it is pursuing six other suspects in the case.

Meanwhile, an anti-corruption court on Wednesday postponed plea-taking by former Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and his co-accused in the case.

Milimani Anti-corruption magistrate Thomas Nzyuki deferred the plea taking to 3pm Wednesday to allow Wa Iria's counsel to avail in court a certified copy of an order issued by the High Court in Murang'a.

Lady Justice Cecilia Githua issued the order stopping the prosecution of Wa Iria, his wife Jane and Kimani over an alleged Sh351 million probe.

Nzyuki said he will also deal with an application by the prosecution seeking a warrant of arrest for seven other accused persons at 3pm.
