Murang'a court suspends charging of Wa Iria and wife in Sh351m probe

• Jane and Kimani were on Wednesday arrested and presented before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

•Milimani Anti-corruption magistrate Thomas Nzyuki had deferred their plea to 3pm Wednesday before the Murang'a court suspended their prosecution.

Former Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and nine others will not be charged with corruption related offences pending determination of a case filed in Murang'a High court challenging their prosecution.

The orders were obtained by Wa Iria's counsels Ndegwa Njiru, Wilfred Nyamu and Peter Wanyama before Justice Cecilia Githua.

As the order was being issued in Murang'a, two of the accused person's had already been arraigned before a Milimani law court waiting to plead to the charges.

Nyamu then asked anti-corruption Magistrate Thomas Nzyuki to defer plea taking to 3pm as they procure the order from Murang'a to Milimani.

The order was subsequently produced in court in Nairobi Wednesday evening.

Nyamu in citing the order said: "This means all accused person's are protected. We urge this court to down it's tools and release the two accused person's unconditionally."

The Magistrate after perusing the orders from Murang'a said, "Proceedings before this court stand stayed pending the outcome before the Murang'a court."

Wa Iria and nine other suspects including wife Jane Waigwe Kimani and her brother Solomon Mutura Kimani are facing charges relating to a Sh351m probe.

Jane and Kimani were on Wednesday arrested and presented before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said both are suspects in Sh140 million Murang'a county graft probe.
