There was confusion in court after a woman went into labour not long after being acquited in her sons death.

On March 27 a heavily pregnant Virginia Mbinya Maingi was brought before the court as a suspect in the death of her one-year-old son.

She was acquitted by Principal Magistrate Paul Matanda after an investigation by the DCI proved the child had died of starvation.

Shortly after her acquittal, Mbinya experienced labour pains, prompting court clerks to assist.

They quickly covered her and called nurses from the nearby Kathimani dispensary. The medical experts successfully delivered her baby girl, after which she was taken home by police once her condition stabilised.
