Police are investigating an incident in which a female student at Kenya Medical Training College in Meru was found dead in her room.

The body of Lydiah Karimi, 27, was found in her single rented room after she had died of suffocation.

Police who visited the scene on Thursday, April 13 morning said a manager at the apartment in the Mini Village area found the woman dead.

The manager told police the room was filled with smoke from burning meat that was on a gas cooker.

The woman is suspected to have been cooking the meat when she suffocated.

A probe is ongoing to establish what caused her death.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man was found dead in his house in Embakasi, Nairobi.

Police who visited the scene said Christopher Ndegwa Mugo was alone at the time of his death.

His friend had gone to check on him on Thursday and found the room locked from the inside and upon peeping through the window, he saw the motionless body of the deceased on the bed.

Police were called and visited the scene and broke the door and found the body of Mugo with a sisal rope stretching diagonally to a steel nail pinned on the wall with blood oozing from the mouth.

The cause of the death is yet to be established. Police say they are investigating the matter.
