A Bomet University student who had been declared missing has been found dead. The female student had been missing since last week, raising concern among her university mates. She has now been found floating in a river on the outskirts of Bomet town.

She was said to be a fourth-year student who was about to sit for her final exams. Police identified the body as that of 22-year-old Mary Ann Wangari, a fourth-year student at Bomet University.

The police said that the body was found floating in the Chebirir area, in the raging waters of river Nyangores.

In a report on Citizen TV, the Bomet Central sub-county Deputy Police Commandant Ali Bashir was quoted as saying the Communication and Public Relations student went missing last week on Tuesday.

“The body was discovered by a member of the public who proceeded to inform the police,” said Bashir.

“Our officers together with the school administration have begun recording statements from students who were last seen with the deceased as we embark on serious investigations,” said Bashir.

He also noted that the body had already started decomposing. The body has been moved to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
