2 workers were killed after they fell from higher floors of structures they were constructing in the city. These are the latest incidents to happen in a series that have been reported to the police.
Authorities say they receive up to four deaths a week out of accidents at construction sites in the city and have termed the trend alarming and uncalled for.
The latest incident happened on December 10 in Parklands where 40-year-old Silvano Butembu fell from the fourth floor of a house under construction and died.
His colleagues and police said he sustained head injuries and was rushed to Avenue hospital where succumbed to injuries.
Construction at the site was stopped as officials from the Nairobi County, National Construction Authority, and police among others investigate the accident.
In Lungalunga, Moses Onyango, 46, fell from the rooftop of a house and landed on his head.
He was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incidents.
He said other experts had been drawn into the investigations to establish if there was any form of negligence on the side of the contractors.
“We have seen a sad trend of accidents on these sites and we are looking into them. We get almost one death weekly from such sites,” he said.
Bungei said the victims are breadwinners and always wake up to fend for their families only for them to meet their deaths in such circumstances.
Officials blame a lack of protective gear and supervision for the fatal falls.
