NTSA: 4,248 lives claimed since January

NTSA has revealed that 4,248 died as a result of road crashes in the first 11 months of this year.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority indicates that 19,285 fatalities have been caused between January and November 30, 2022.

In terms of fatalities deaths recorded from road crashes are 4,237, seriously injured(8,756) and 6,281 victims were slightly injured.

Last month, NTSA director Alice Chesire said road accidents cause losses of more than Sh310 billion annually.

She said the economic impact caused by road carnage is heavy and has been on the increase every year.

Chesire urged Kenyans, especially drivers to exercise responsibility and be part of efforts to reduce accidents which rob many families of their breadwinner

“The losses as a result of accidents are huge, especially to affected families. We must all team up to ensure our roads are safe for all users,” she said.

In terms of types of vehicles involved in accidents NTSA data reveals that motorcycles are in the lead at 1,075 and commercial vehicles recorded 1,010 crashes.

At least 997 privately owned vehicles were involved in accidents, Public Service Vehicles(565), Unknown(506) while Government cars(41), Tricycles(26), pedal cycles(10), handcarts(4) and three ambulances.
