Award-winning actress Nini Wacera has opened up about undergoing an abortion at age 19.
She says her parents gave her an ultimatum to either get rid of it or get married to the man who had impregnated her.
Sadly for her, the man did not want anything to do with her after he learned she was heavy with child.
Speaking during an appearance on the show Engage Talk, the mother of one shared
"I met an older man known as Simon, and months after that I fell pregnant.
I had the plan to live at home but my parents told me to either abort it or go get married to the man"
Wacera says she ended up in a clinic in Eastleigh where she underwent the abortion
"I got rid of it as Simon did not want anything to do with me. My dad did not want anything to do with me either as I was soiled and I was ruining his reputation.
"I harbored anger and despair toward my parents. It did not matter how much good was going on beside me, inside I hated myself."
The self-loathing saw Wacera try to take away her life severally.
"The self-hate made me attempt suicide multiple times.
At 19 I got my stomach pumped (with drugs), at 25 I got my wrists stitched at 29 I got pulled out of the river."
The celebrated actress is now a mother of one.
She has since made peace with the mistakes of her youth and hopes parents would be supportive of their daughters when they get pregnant young.
