Celebrated veteran genge artist Mejja has revealed the reason that pushed him to adopt the moniker 'Mtoto wa Khadija' which he uses in almost all his songs.

The 37-year-old star whose real name is Major Nameye Khadija opened up about how having a feminine surname at the beginning was super tiring for him as he would get a multitude of questions and sometimes even get mocked because of it.

"Mama yangu ndio kila kitu hata mimi hujiita mtoto wa Khadija kwa sababu kila time nkitoa ID lazma mtu atoe comment ya surname yangu... kwanza hawa security guards," started off the former Calif Records artist who also goes as Okwonkwo.

He went on to add that the constant questioning started getting to him so he came up with a smart idea, incorporate his surname in his music so that the world would get acquitted with it in order to limit the unnecessary questions.

"So ndio nkaanza kuweka kwa ngoma zangu ndio ukiniona usiniulize iyo swali," added the 'Utawezana' hitmaker.

The former "The Kansoul' group member went on to pour out his admiration for his mom, sharing his plans to name his upcoming album after her and feature her as the cover art as well.

"Yeye ndo amenilea mpaka mahali nimefika, so my upcoming album nataka kuiita jina yake na pia yeye ndio atakuwa cover," Mejja revealed, highlighting his gratitude for his mother's unwavering support and sacrifices.

The seasoned artist was born and raised in Majengo, Nyeri County and has two siblings.
