At least 13 people have lost their lives in a grisly road accident involving a Nissan shuttle and lorry in the Ndii area in Voi,  Taita Taveta County.

The two vehicles collided head-on resulting in the deaths on the spot.

Voi OCPD Bernstein Shari confirmed the incident to the Star and said two people who sustained injuries have been rushed to hospital.

"We are currently at the scene. So far, I can confirm 13 deaths and two injuries. We are organising transportation of the dead bodies to the morgue and the injured are already in the hospital," Shari said.

The shuttle belonged to Genesis company.

It was heading to Mombasa at the time of the accident.
