Daddy Owen has shared lessons learned from his previous marriage. In an interview with Iko Nini, Owen says the breakup affected him mentally.

"Ilikuwa kuna wakati mentally akili zangu hazi work. 2020 was the worst time in my life," he said.

The 41-year-old said several things served as an eye-opener for him about marriage. He said his lessons were based on a woman 'mwenye amesoma', career women, and hypergamy.

Hypergamy is the action of marrying or forming a sexual relationship with a person of a superior sociological or educational background.

"Women will always marry higher, and hypergamy is real bro, most of the time machali ukisha kuwa na dame ukisha mchonga kidogo, ama apate job, ata kusare aendee mwingine."

So the analogy is women will always marry higher, a man can marry, but most of the time African men, want to 'marry lower'.

Owen explained how hypergamy works in the modern age.

"For you to be submissive, you must be lower. So hypergamy happens because most of the time, women feel the moment you marry her you must be 10 steps ahead.  The moment they catch up with you, the fascination dies. and this is my analogy."

He explained that hypergamy is the biggest element that men in Kenya face;

"I will always believe women are attracted to power, fascinated with power, not money. It's only that money comes through the element of power.

But women are fascinated that's why you find, mko tuu mtaani makanga sio ati ako na chapa lakini anapita na madame wenyu wote. Kwa nini? Because huyu makanga akiingia kwa stage ai niaje niaje."

He says this fascination with power is what makes women go to such men. He even gave an example in the Bible.

"When the devil came to tempt Eve with a promise of power. So it's Biblical. Women are fascinated with power.

So if you look at that progress from now kuna aspect ya gender balance eventually unapata most men right now wanapenda kuwa entrepreneur and it's not easy by the way before biz ianze ku make turnovers ni hard sana."

He has also learned about emotional intelligence.

"A lady comes home from work and the guy has spent the whole day inside the house yet he wants to discuss issues with his CEO girlfriend. What will you discuss? Your intelligence level is not the same."

Owen said that this leads to a woman looking for a man on her level.
