Film director Philip Karanja and his business partner Abel Mutua are a happy lot after taking home two awards at the 9th edition of the African Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA)  that was held on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

The two won the awards for Best Movie East Africa and Best Indigenous Language Movie (Swahili) through their movie Click Click Bang, directed by Phil Karanja and scripted by Abel Mutua.

In a statement, the crew thanked their fans for always supporting their work, and promising more extraordinary films/movies.

“We are grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from #philmambassadors and #wakurugenzi since we premiered Click Click Bang. These wins are a manifestation of the growth and progression of the Kenya Film Industry.

“We also applaud @djkrowbar and our entire sound department. We did not bag that one but we recognise the nomination and their hard work in ensuring the film has impeccable sound.

To our crew and cast, y'all outdid yourselves👏🏾👏🏾Congratulations on this win!

Phil It Production also congratulated actor Joe Kinyua aka Njoro Wa Uba for winning the award for Best Comedy Series.

“Congratulations to @kinyuajoe and the entire team for bagging Best Comedy Series "Njoro wa Uba".

“We are here for all the wins in the Kenyan Film Industry! @judynyawira. Tutumie bill ya @phil_director @abelmutua and yourself on us today 💃💃💃,” the statement said.

In December 2022, Abel Mutua acknowledged that they had made Sh9 million through Click Click Bang.

“From pre-production to marketing, we've used seven million. The returns are almost hitting million so it was successful. We really appreciate it because most film projects don't make a profit. Most people look for funding abroad to make movies,” Abel Mutua told Kiss FM’s Dennis Milimo.
