After an eight-hour surgery on March 6, 2023, Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve's life took a turn for the worse.

For many months, the Deejay could not speak as a part of her body became paralyzed.

The surgery came after a shooting incident at a Nairobi club, an incident that saw Embakasi East MP Babu Owino put on the spot.

But after months of battling for his health, the Deejay revealed a major breakthrough on Thursday. He is now able to speak.

Narrating to the Star on Thursday,  he said that he never thought a day would come in his adult life when he would get excited to hear himself speak.

“I had to cancel my much-awaited comeback’ to deejay life and try a few mixes because the surgery was a day before. However, after eight hours he could hear his voice,” Evolve said.

After surgery,  Evolve said he spent two days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)  for recovery for two days and was moved to the general ward for a week.

He revealed that the first words he uttered were his name.

“I was really surprised when I spoke my first words because I was doubting. My first words were my name. Actually after surgery the doctor came and asked what my name was and I wasn’t even sure If I could speak,"  Evolve added.

He said that he felt normal and he could hear the excitement when he talked to his family and friends.

“I have never been excited like this before. It's good to be normal. It's way better than before I could only communicate through texting via Whatsapp and messages. But I know I can call my people and chat. Life is good,” Evolve added.

However, Evolve explained that even after surgery. he faced challenges as he couldn’t go back to the factory setting to the way he did things.

He said just like a baby, he had to relearn how I can eat, chew, breathe, and talk.

“For a fully healthy person, it's something that you don’t even think about because it’s a  subconscious process. But I had to balance them again,” Evolve said.

Referring to the progress as baby steps, the Dj said he is optimistic that normalcy will return, despite him being in a wheelchair.

“Actually at the moment I still have like a tracheal tube, so that when I’m overwhelmed I can open it and breathe directly from my trachea,” he said.

“In fact tomorrow I’m going back to the hospital for a review and the doctors will decide whether to remove it or not,” Evolve added.
