Cheating, also known as infidelity, is when a person in a monogamous romantic relationship has an emotional or sexual relationship with someone else without their partner's consent.
While many people are blindsided if and when they find out about a spouse or partner cheating, others may suspect infidelity because of actions that are out of the norm.
Below are just some of the signs;
1. Protectiveness with their electronic devices.
This can include a range of things, like changing their password or keeping their phone on them all the time when they used to leave it sitting out, and all of a sudden the phone goes everywhere even the bathroom.
In committed relationships, it’s not uncommon to know your partner’s password or be able to pick up their phone to look something up on the internet or snap a cute picture if your phone isn’t nearby.
If your partner seems possessive over their phone or gets mad when you ask to use it, they may be hiding something.
2. Increased interest in appearance.
Certainly, taking care of yourself can be positive, but when combined with other suspicious behaviors, this may also be cause for concern.
If your partner is dressing nicer, working out more, paying more attention to their grooming, or putting on perfume or cologne more regularly than they're used to, it could be to appeal to someone else.
Your partner could be motivated to impress someone else.
3. Changes in communication, ignorance, changing subjects, dismissive body language.
Another sign of infidelity is a sudden shift in communication patterns. When you express your concerns, your spouse may become more distant, avoid conversations about your relationship, or even become defensive avoid conversations about your relationship or even become defensive.
4. Money issues, and inconsistent expenses.
If you notice cash withdrawals from your joint accounts that are out of your partner’s usual spending limit they could be using cash to pay for their outings with another person so that their activities aren't trackable.
If you ask your partner about these expenses, and their answers seem untrue, it’s likely that they are untrue.
Infidelity costs money, gifts, trips, wine and dinners, hotel rooms, etc. The costs of cheating can add up very quickly.
5. Altered schedules with no good explanation.
Most people have predictable schedules, and even if their schedule changes, there’s usually a reason that makes sense.
Someone who must ‘work late’ all of a sudden at times that go beyond a reasonable explanation may be cheating.
6. They are constantly unreachable
Change is an important factor.
If your partner has a job that makes it tough to reach them during certain hours of the day, it doesn’t mean they’re cheating.
But if you’re suddenly struggling to reach them when you could in the past, and it’s a consistent issue, that should raise a red flag.
7. Changes in your sex life.
It’s more common for cheaters to decrease the frequency of sex at home, given that they’re getting it elsewhere.
8. They don't speak about your future together anymore.
In a relationship, it’s normal to speak about the future in terms of “we” and “us”.
It can definitely be concerning “if you feel like your partner is checking out of the relationship, no longer making future plans, or talking about long-term intentions.
9. Start giving more gifts than usual or they suddenly really critical of you.
Of course, loving partners give gifts. But cheaters take this to the next level to cover their tracks. It can be a way of reassuring you that they love you and are devoted to you so that any sign of cheating the partner uncovers can be readily dismissed as something ‘they would never do.
