Five people were Thursday killed after heavily armed bandits attacked Lami Nyeusi village in West Pokot County.
Another person is nursing gunshot wounds following the attack, police and locals said.
Locals said the raiders suspected to have been on a revenge mission attacked the village on Wednesday night and managed to away with 19 goats.
The attackers are said to have shot the six people who were asleep killing five of them on the spot.
The sixth person, a woman, was seriously injured police said.
A resident said the attackers struck at about 2 am while heavily armed.
West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okelo said a team of security officers has been sent to the neighbouring area of Kainuk to track down the bandits.
He said no arrest has been made so far.
It is the latest attack in a region that is under an ongoing security operation.
Six counties in the North Rift were declared dangerous and disturbed to enable the operation to go on.
More than 200 assorted weapons have been recovered from the areas.
More than 150 people including police officers have been killed in attacks linked to the bandits in the last seven months.
This prompted the government to deploy multi-agency teams in the area to tame the trend. But the attacks have persisted in the past days despite the operations.
