A man killed his pregnant girlfriend by stabbing her 40 times with scissors because she tried to break up their relationship.

Liam Taylor, 37, admitted killing mother-of-four Ailish Walsh, 28, after trying to break up with her because he was using drugs.

Taylor stabbed Mrs. Walsh, who was 12 weeks pregnant with his child, in a particularly brutal attack at her home in Hackney, east London, last year.

Mrs. Walsh was found covered in blood in a jacket with a view next to clothes and blood-soaked scissors.

Taylor told police after his arrest that it was 'crazy how one moment of madness can change your whole life'.

According to Mail Online, Judge Alexia Durran told Taylor: “You have pleaded guilty today and there is only one sentence.  The question is how long it will take before the parole board can consider your release."

CCTV footage captured Taylor entering through the communal gate of his home that evening at 8.36 pm and leaving at 9.14 pm, the paper said.

A female friend had called the victim and heard screams and fighting in the background five minutes before he left.

He had made contact after Mrs. Walsh sent a message saying she was trying to get Taylor out of her flat because he was using drugs, the judge was told.

Ms. Walsh's father and brother watched from the courtroom as Taylor, who has previous convictions for violence against women, pleaded guilty to murder.

Prosecutor Paul Casey said a full autopsy had yet to be released and Taylor could be charged with child abuse based on evidence of the duration of the pregnancy.

There will be another hearing on May 10 but a sentencing date has not yet been set.
