Nairobi’s event scene has bounced back with a vengeance since COVID-19, as each and every week our feeds, and streets are taken over with promotions of the next ‘hot’ event.

The typical citizen of Nairobi may be sick of this trend, but what they don’t understand is the impact such events have on a country’s economy.

According to a statement in September by the then Kenya’s Tourism Secretary Najib Balala, Kenya’s tourism earnings between January and August 2022 rose to KES 167 billion, up from KES 83 billion fetched in the previous financial year.

Sol Generation’s GM William Nanjero explains, “Part of what makes Kenya one of the best places to live and visit, is our thriving nightlife and event landscape. And one of our key focuses as a business is to not only play a part in Kenya’s resurging event and music scene, but to also put on shows that are memorable enough for people to keep wanting to come back.”

The importance of eventing goes beyond experiences and a good time, the industry props up thousands of SMEs and contractors every year.

“There are so many citizens that have found employment opportunities as result of events like SolFest, and this year we alone have engaged over one-hundred SMEs and solo entrepreneurs to make it all happen,” Nanjero explains.

Merchandisers, vendors, producers, stage designers, graphic designers, stylists, security, along with the businesses that support the artists performing, these are just a few examples provided by the SolFest team at their recent press conference.

“When you buy a ticket to SolFest you are not only supporting the business running the event, but you are also supporting hundreds of others, something people should keep in mind” says Nanjero.

SolFest 2022 will be held at KICC this Saturday 17th December.
