The Supreme Court of Kenya on Monday, 5th September 2022, upheld William Ruto's win as the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.
Reading the verdict on Monday, Chief Justice Martha Koome said Ruto garnered 50 percent plus one vote cast.
Ruto had garnered 7.1m while Raila Odinga garnered 6.9m as declared by the IEBC.
The confirmation followed an intense 14-day process in which lawyers representing Azimio's Raila Odinga, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and President-elect William Ruto did battle.
The Supreme Court received nine petitions, of which eight challenged Ruto's election, while one support his victory.
A few minutes later, the Azimio la Umoja vocal supporter Boniface Mwangi shared a congratulatory message to William Ruto on his social media.
"Congratulations President-elect William Ruto. May you always respect and uphold. the constitution.
Earlier today, Bonface Mwangi asked Kenyans to remain peaceful after the decision by the court.
"Today is a big day for Kenya. The Supreme Court will deliver its ruling on whether IEBC conducted free and fair elections. We must be prepared to respect the Court’s judgment, whether we agree with the ruling or not. Let justice be our shield and defender. Maintain the peace."
President William Ruto is expected to address the nation in a few.
