Oruba residents in Migori are complaining of being treated to the uncomfortable sites of randy couples who have turned a bush into a green love nest.

Residents around Kamariebga said seeing couples holding hands, sitting tightly and disappearing into thickets have caused them discomfort.

Children from nearby schools and traders headed to Migori town market said lovemaking sounds or the aftermath of used condoms and undies left behind have been common.

“We are aware of the complaints. We are alarmed that schoolgoing children have been found playing with condoms, talking and imitating what they have seen in the bushes,” Suna Oruba chief Charles Ouma said.

Ouma said several months ago, they received similar complaints. Together with the Nyumba Kumi, they started patroling and the situation was put under control. It, however, picked recently.

“In the past, we caught several culprits, some were lased while others were chased away,” the chief said.

He said the bush is located in a swampy, less populated area and occasionally it is used as a dumpsite which has attracted the couples.

“They have been destroying trees and shrubs, apart from causing discomfort. Elders are on the lookout and those found will be arraigned,” Ouma said.

Resident Anna Adhiambo said while other estates in Migori town have lodgings, Oruba has been known for insecurity which has scared investors.

“When you walk past and see a man and a woman lurking around, we walk away before they disappear,” Adhiambo said.

Residents said housewives or adulterous couples afraid of being caught in lodgings prefer the thicket because it is cheap and maybe provides a natural lovemaking scene instead of the common bedroom setup.

This, too, has been coupled with the high cost of living as the cost of cheapest lodging has shot from Sh300 to Sh500 in Migori town.

“We have several lodging in Migori town and we will never allow our area to be a place of shame, we will make several arrests to send a message,” Ouma said.
