Daddy Owen has narrated how wanting to fit in lead him down the wrong path after he ended up becoming a hardcore thug.

According to Owen, he had been thrown out by his dad alongside his brother Rufftone thus he had to find a way to survive.

Speaking during Churchill Show he shared,

'I was trying to find my way in Nairobi, having come from ushago I wanted to move in. I did not even know how to speak proper Swahili, I eventually realized I was not getting what I wanted.

I would see people with cash and girlfriends yet I had none, so one would tell you 'you want to get these things? Lemmie show you what to do.'."

Owen added that slowly he started being given jobs by the gang.

''My work was to know where the matatu would stop, and the escape routes we would use.

My work was to make links between drivers or conductors, the others had guns but I was still young.

I was terrified because I had never planned to be a gangster. Circumstances put me there.

The problem with such a job is that the more you are there, the deeper you go and the harder it is to come out.''

Being a thug came with its fair share of pain for Daddy Owen, he once witnessed a fellow thug member being killed.

''We were in Umoja Innercore and one of the guys was arrested and he was burned while I was in the crowd watching.

I saw what was happening but I could not help.''

On a different occasion, Daddy Owen lost his eye after being beaten by an angry mob.

'We hijacked a matatu around Impala Grounds, we did not know that it was a South B matatu.

When the other gang members realized that, they alighted and I did not notice as they were sitting at the front and I was at the back.

I started shouting to distract passengers only to realize I was alone and once we reached Bomblast is when the people started beating me.

I knew I was dying. There was a watchman who hit my knee and I could not run.''

On what made him change and become a saved man, Owen shared:

''The other guys knew I had been beaten up and when I was in hospital no one came to visit me except my brother.

That is when I decided to change and became saved. Crime is not good but I speak about it to inspire people.''
