Woman charged with stealing rice worth Sh14 million

•Wanjiru faced another count of conspiracy to steal 50 kgs of full grain grade one rice with another person who was not before the court.

Mary Wanjiru Wangechi appeared before a Kiambu Law Court.

A woman was on Wednesday charged with Stealing rice worth Sh14  million at a Kiambu law court.

Mary Wanjiru Wangechi appeared before a Kiambu Law Court resident magistrate Nelliean Ng'ang'a where she was charged with stealing.

The court heard that the accused on diverse dates between December 1, 2021, and February  282022, jointly with others who were not before the court with intent to defraud stole 1680 bags of 50Kgs rice valued at Sh14,784,000 belonging to Mohamed Ibrahim.

Wanjiru faced another count of conspiracy to steal 50 kgs of full grain grade one rice with another person who was not before the court.

She faced the third count of forgery where she was accused of forging a document with a tender award letter Ref 913542498wp dated December 17, 2021, purporting to be a genuine award letter signed and stamped by UNHCR.

She however faced a fourth count of impersonation where she falsely represented herself as the inspection officer attached to UNHCR.

Wangechi was released on a cash bail of Sh5 million.

Another accused person was charged with similar charges and was released on Sh3 million cash bail.

The magistrate allowed the application where the two cases will be consolidated on November 15,  2023.
