Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has offered to sponsor a lady accused of masquerading as a city lawyer.

In a statement posted by the former Nairobi county boss on his X account, Sonko commended the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, in what he termed as the IG respecting the rule of law in handling the accusations.

''Our compliments to IG Japhet Koome and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin for respecting the rule of law, ''Sonko stated.

Sonko claimed that the lady in question has a law degree from Catholic University and that her only challenge was not being able to get funds to be enrolled at Kenya School of Law (KSL) to pursue her pupillage so as to meet the qualifications to be admitted as a lawyer.

''I have personally volunteered to sponsor her until she qualifies fully and completes her law education," he said.

Sonko further called on the public and the Law Society of Kenya to not victimize the accused masqueraders but rather offer education and what they lack since they are brilliant minds.

The lady accused of masquerading as an advocate of the High Court was arrested on Monday evening in what was alleged as her stealing someone's identity and running a law firm illegally.

According to LSK, the lady in question had stolen the identity of someone with a name similar to hers and had gone on to gee up a thriving legal career, even representing herself in court.

The LSK President Eric Theuri was present during the lady’s arrest as he later took on his social media account to reiterate that the LSK will not relent in nabbing quacks masquerading as advocates of the high court.

"We thank our members for alerting us of this incident. We will not relent in this fight. The operation to rid masquerades will be intensive, thorough, and unrelenting," he posted on X.

The lady’s arrest comes days after yet another quack lawyer who captured the imagination of Kenyans even as the LSK engaged in online exchanges with some renowned profiles who defended the accused and offered support when it will be needed.
