Man surrenders to the police after killing wife

A 27-year-old man from Kakamega turned himself to the police after he allegedly strangled his 25 year-old wife to death.

Ambrose Nyongesa strangled Daisy Chepkurui to death over an unknown reason.

Likuyani Area Assistant Chief  Maurice Mukopi says he received a call from the are Nyumba Kumi representative concerning the accident.

"I received a call from the area Nyumba Kumi representative who informed me about the incident. I rushed to the scene to ascertain what transpired," Mukopi said.

He added that the 27-year-old suspect then turned himself in at Matunda Police Station, over the alleged killing of his 25-year-old wife.

"The two have been living together for at least five months now.

Police are conducting investigations to establish the motive behind the killing," the administrator told a Citizen.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary

The incident took place in Binyenya village in Moi's Bridge.

This incident comes barely two weeks after a man killed his brother over a plate of Omena in Kakamega.

The incident which happened in Likuyani sub-county after the two brothers picked a quarrel over a meal of ugali and omena they had been served for supper by their mother at Kambi Elijah village in Seregeya sublocation, Likuyani, in Kakamega county

The two, identified as Albert Adamba and John Kilibwa, fought after Kilibwa demanded to be given more of the omena, a move Adamba objected to. 

Their elder brother, Vincent Misango, 56, intervened but Adamba hit him with a blunt object on the head and he fell unconscious.

Misango was rushed to Turbo Subcounty Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Neighbours said the three brothers have had a long-standing land dispute.

“They have been disagreeing on how they should share a piece of land left behind by their late father,” village elder Jimmy Kwayumba said.

Seregeya assistant chief Moses Wanjala said the suspect had been arrested and is being held at Likuyani police station and investigations into the incident have been launched.

The body was taken to Kimbilio Funeral Home in Uasin Gishu county.
