A man whose daughter was dropped at Syokimau, Machakos county, by a boda boda rider, opened fire at him in a fit of wrath on Thursday.
According to the boda boda rider who uses online taxi hailing apps, Wycliffe Atendo, a client requested that he drop her off at White House Estate in Syokimau.
George Kinoti, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, claimed that Atendo picked the customer, a 21-year-old woman, near a pharmacy on Kimathi street before starting the 20-kilometer trip.
"The duo arrived at the agreed address and as the woman was about to pay him, a man quickly emerged from the gate and gave her a beating, before showing her into the compound," Kinoti said.
As the boda boda man thought about his next move, the enraged man whipped out a firearm and fired at him instead, making him flee the scene.
The rider reported the incident at Syokimau police station and officers responded swiftly.
Kinoti said they established that the man was a military doctor who was armed with a glock pistol and 42 rounds of 9mm calibre.
The man was arrested and handed over to military police for further action, in accordance with military discipline.
