Mystery surrounds the discovery of the body of a middle-aged man that was found hanging from a tree along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.
It’s suspected that the man who is yet to be identified was hanged on the tree near Longonot town by unknown persons after he was murdered elsewhere.
Emotions ran high among area residents who failed to identify the victim as police moved in to collect the body during the Thursday morning incident.
In the last couple of years, the area has been used to dump bodies with the majority of them killed through strangulation using a wire.
An elder John Karimi said that the body was found on Thursday morning by some workers heading to a nearby quarry.
He said that they decided to inform the police adding that at the scene there were marks of car tyres raising fear if the man had really committed suicide.
“The man does not hail from this area and we are wondering why one has to travel from another place and take his life on this section of the road,” he said.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident adding that the body had been collected and taken to the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
“The man had a rope around the neck but we are not taking chances and we have opened an inquest file as we seek to establish his identity,” he said.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged man was hit and killed by a speeding car along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway as cases of fatal accidents including pedestrians continued to rise.
During the night incident near Mithuri estate, the car fled the scene before the body of the man said to be a casual laborer was collected.
“One man was hit and killed by a car along the highway and we have launched investigations as we seek the driver and the car involved in the accident,” said the police boss.
